Unfortunately the YamDaisy Cafe in the Foyer Space at East Reservoir has been on hold since November last year. The venture was set up so that YamDaisy would be trading under Reservoir Neighbourhood House. We now have a joint statement:
It is with regret and a heavy heart that we confirm the YamDaisy café will not be going ahead in the foyer space at Darebin Community Health’s East Reservoir site. Unfortunately we were unable to find an appropriate solution to some of the issues faced with getting the café set up and therefore could not continue the café initiative at the East Reservoir site.
We would like to say a huge Thank You to our community and those involved in supporting this initiative. We value the time, knowledge, energy and enthusiasm shared by so many when it comes to local community projects and initiatives.
We will continue to work to develop and share opportunities that encourage partnerships, increase health and improve access to fresh food locally for our community.
Although it was ultimately unsuccessful, the process has made us stronger and clearer about what YamDaisy needs to be.
I will be taking some time to do the finishing up tasks. There are quite a few!
We received wonderful donations of equipment that were specifically for the Foyer Cafe. We plan to store them and make use of them in the future, they are wonderful assets for YamDaisy.
However, they were donations specifically for the Foyer Cafe so let me know if you would like your donation back. In fact it may be better to have them used by someone, instead of sitting in storage!
We set up the GoFundMe campaign specifically for this project, and using Reservoir Neigbourhood House’s charity status and bank account. As the project is not going ahead RNH will follow up refunding the donations back into the accounts of the donors, and then I will close the campaign.
If you would like to donate to YamDaisy again, that would be wonderful! We will soon have a fundraising campaign and our own bank account. You can be sure I will let you know when the time comes!
I need to completely update the website as I had changed it to suit the foyer cafe. I will try to a) be quick as it is our main contact with the world and b) go slowly to make sure it suits what we do next!
What we do next
This is the exciting bit.
Over the next little while we will put together a plan of what we can do, making a step (or two or three) towards our big vision of the YamDaisy cafe that provides a place in the community, and wonderful food for making eating well easier. (And then having a whole wonderful franchise of them!)
This is the bit that is wide open to possibilities! We would just love your ideas and feedback.
What can we do now? With the resources we have now? That will help get us to our goal?
Next post will have a range of ideas so you can let us know which ones you think will work best, and also to add further suggestions.
You don’t need to wait for that though! You can contact me anytime!
Thankyou again for your support
Everything we have been working toward is rushing together now!
Our opening day is two weeks away! 29th of November (changed since a previous post, to give us a little more time!
We have had lots of donated goods which has been a life saver. And we are SO grateful to the people who have donated to our campaign. See our equipment list! We still need some things!
We have had a kitchen practice, and brought together a group of people to taste our fare. Big success! We are so excited about the lovely food we are providing.
We still need help! Please check out our GoFundMe Campaign! We need every donation we can possibly get! Every $5 helps! Hassle your friends, let them know what a wonderful venture they will be supporting!
I am adjusting the top figure again to account for donations we have been given outside of the GoFundMe campaign. I haven’t put in the things people have lent to us (sandwich press, pressure cooker, fridge!) because we still need to buy those things, but I am adding things that might be slightly smaller or different to what we really need, because at least they are ours! (microwave, 2 slot toaster)
This morning I am off to sort out our business permit, measure up for our cafe sign and menu boards and then staffing….
Staffing! We are almost organised, and have a back up plan, but if you know a wonderful experienced person who would like to work in our lovely cafe for the four weeks (10 – 2 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) this year, or when we re-open 24th January, get them to contact me immediately! 0402 377 839.
If there is anything you can do to help us, now is the time!
But, of course, the best help will be to come and check us out when we are up and running, in the foyer of Darebin Community Health, East Reservoir site, 125 Blake St.
See you there!
Hello this is the Monday YamDaisy Update!
I am glad to say that our GoFundMe donations are up to $750! Thankyou so much, donators!
Also, I have adjusted our Goal Total because of a wonderful $1,000 donation that didn’t come through GoFundMe, and thanks to lovely crockery donations that I have added up at $3 a piece and $48 for the stick blender and so taken $150 off the total for those!
Not only that! I have 2 boxes of donated crockery to check through, as soon as I have a minute spare. Thanks so much Kristine.
There are several people who want to help but are unable to make a donation through GoFundMe, so I have put up our enormous equipment list so you can check through in case you can donate something. A bit tricky if you are not near us! You can drop donated goods (or a cash donation) at Reservoir Neighbourhood House, or contact me to work something else out.
We love it if you find something for us at the back of a cupboard, in your local Op Shop, or maybe even brand new. They must be in good condition!
I’ll keep updating the equipment page (and adjusting our Goal Total!)
Don’t forget to donate, if you haven’t already, and to share posts with friends so they remember to donate too 🙂
Looking forward to writing the next update!
